UK Set For Life Lottery – Win £10,000 a Month for 30 Years

Imagine waking up every month for the next 30 years to find £10,000 in your bank account. That is exactly the dream that the UK's Set For Life lottery makes possible. Unlike traditional jackpot games that hand winners a one-time lump sum, Set For Life is built around long-term financial freedom — making it one of the most unique and compelling lottery games available in the United Kingdom today. With twice-weekly draws, affordable tickets, and eight prize tiers to win, there are plenty of reasons to give it a go.

A Brief History of Set For Life

Set For Life was launched in March 2019 by the National Lottery, operated at the time by Camelot (now Allwyn). It was introduced as the first-ever annuity lottery of its kind in the UK — a game designed to pay out its top prizes in monthly instalments rather than a traditional one-off jackpot.

The concept was inspired by similar annuity-style lottery formats already popular in countries such as the United States and Australia. By bringing the model to British players, the National Lottery gave UK participants a fresh alternative to Lotto and EuroMillions — one that prioritised sustained financial security over a single windfall. The game was also notable for filling gaps in the weekly draw schedule: Set For Life draws take place on Mondays and Thursdays, days on which no other major National Lottery draw was previously held, meaning UK players can now enter a National Lottery game every day of the week except Sunday.

Since its launch, more than 70 players have matched all five main numbers plus the Life Ball to claim the top prize.

How to Play Set For Life

Picking Your Numbers

Set For Life uses a double-matrix format:

  • Main numbers: Choose 5 numbers from a pool of 1 to 47
  • Life Ball: Choose 1 number from a separate pool of 1 to 10

To win the jackpot, you must match all five main numbers and the Life Ball. You can pick your numbers manually or opt for a Lucky Dip, which generates a random selection on your behalf. Each line costs £1.50 to enter — making it cheaper to play than Lotto or EuroMillions.

You need to match at least 2 main numbers to win any prize.

The Life Ball

The Life Ball is drawn from a completely separate pool of 10 balls. It acts as a multiplier for your prize tier: matching it alongside your main numbers moves you into a higher prize category, significantly boosting your winnings. For example, matching 4 main numbers alone wins £30, while matching 4 main numbers plus the Life Ball wins £250.

No Rollover

Unlike Lotto or EuroMillions, Set For Life does not operate a rollover system. If no one wins the top prize in a given draw, the jackpot does not carry over to the next draw. Instead, the National Lottery may announce a Super Chance draw — a special event in which the top prize of £10,000 a month for 30 years can be won by matching only five main numbers (without the Life Ball). If no winner claims the top prize in a Super Chance draw either, another Super Chance draw is held in the following round.

Prize Tiers and Odds

Set For Life offers 8 prize tiers. The top two prizes are paid out as annuities (monthly instalments), while the remaining six are fixed cash amounts paid in one go.

Note on prize capping: All Set For Life prizes are fixed amounts. However, in exceptional circumstances — such as an unusually high number of winners — the top two annuity prizes may be capped. In each draw, a total of £16 million is available to fund the top prize tier, and the Match 5 prize fund is capped at £2 million.

Draw Schedule

Set For Life draws are held twice a week:

  • 📅 Monday at 8:00 PM (GMT)
  • 📅 Thursday at 8:00 PM (GMT)

Winning numbers are announced immediately after the draw, with the full prize breakdown following approximately 45 minutes later. Ticket sales close at 7:30 PM on draw days, so make sure to enter before the cut-off.

You can play Set For Life online via the official National Lottery website or app, or in person at any authorised National Lottery retailer across the UK.

Why Play Set For Life?

Set For Life stands out from every other lottery game in the UK for one simple reason: it is not about a one-time windfall — it is about changing your life permanently. The top prize totals £3.6 million paid over 30 years, and even the second prize delivers £120,000 spread across 12 months. This annuity structure is designed to provide genuine, lasting financial security, reducing the risk of winners mismanaging a large lump sum.

With an overall 1 in 12.4 chance of winning something, two draws per week, and tickets starting at just £1.50, Set For Life is one of the most accessible and exciting games the National Lottery has to offer.

Good luck — and remember to play responsibly.
